Awareness and
recognition of women's mental health issues have been promoted by
the production of national documents such as the NHS Plan, the NSF
for Women and Mental Health and the confidential Enquiry of "Why
women die?", and a document on Domestic Violence.
In particular,
perinatal psychiatric problems have been highlighted, these are
an area of interest to professionals including Psychiatrists, General
Practitioners, Obstetricians, Health Visitors, Midwives, Community
Psychiatric
Nurses and Social Workers.
The Lancashire
Study Day for Women and Mental Health has been organised to
promote the issue of women's mental health in the perinatal period.
The aim is
to underline the problems of motherhood and to host a multi-disciplinary
discussion of problems, possible solutions and future service provision.
